An experiential day course with practical facilitation will help you with

  • Confidence and competence in the distinct stages of writing from raw data to abstract
  • Knowledge and skills of drafting, redrafting, editing, and engagement of appropriate critical peer readersability to express what needs to be said in the right way for the right
  • Readership in the right journal, concisely, straightforwardly, comprehensibly
  • Understanding how to inspire editors and readers with respect for your arguments and findings

Academic writing is clarified, simplified, and made not only possible but enjoyable. 

The Participants

Academics from any discipline needing to develop clear communicating prose and confidence in style and form appropriate to peer reviewed journals.

 What participants need to bring

  • a copy of a journal where you would ideally like to publish your paper
  • a draft section of your paper (1-2000 words)
  • a short extract of academic or non-academic writing by a published writer you admire and like

The Lecturer

Gillie Bolton is author of Reflective Practice Writing and Professional Development 2nd Edition (Sage Publications), associate editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics: Medical Humanities (British Medical Journal Publications), author and editor of four further books on writing, and many academic papers in refereed journals, associate editor to two further medical & healthcare journals.   Freelance consultant previously senior research fellow King’s College London, Gillie has given many keynote lectures worldwide, run academic and professional writing courses for over twenty years and lives in Bloomsbury, London and Hope Valley Derbyshire.
